After breakfast, leave Salento and start a journey of 23 kilometers in 4×4 along the old road that connects Salento with Ibagué and Bogotá. It is now a gravel road used by mountain bikers and farmers in the area. The landscape offers one of the most beautiful views of the Cordillera Central and Los Nevados National Park. As the trip continues to 3.600m, stop to enjoy the view of the Paramillo of the Quindío (4.750m) and then take a short trip to an indigenous cemetery in the forest.
Shortly after, the valley shows an impressive Wax Palm Forest, enjoy the view while you take a break in La Carbonera farm, which is a hummingbird’s reserve where you will try a typical local drink Agua de panela (sugarcane-water) with cheese.
Then begin a 19-km trek back to Salento on the eastern side of the mountain, along some open paths and through the forest. On the way, stop at a farm located on a hill with breathtaking views of the mountains and Quindío’s Department, to enjoy a picnic box lunch. Return to Salento at 5pm and transfer to the hotel.
