El Cocuy National Park is located roughly a 10 to 12 hour journey by bus to the north east of Bogota. This National Park comprises of two parallel chains of mountains with more than 22 snow peaks that extend over an area of approximately 306,000 hectares. Landscapes offer heights ranging from 600m up to 5,339m. Silent summits, glaciers, lakes, waterfalls and cliffs make up the scenery of this trip. Hard working and humble mountain folk continue to live here amidst this area of wild beauty and amazing remote territories. Theirs is a truly beautiful land which is worth being discovered and protected. This is a high-altitude paradise for hikers and climbers in Colombia. 

DAY 1 | BOGOTÁ – EL COCUY

Departure at 8:00 pm from Bogota through a regular or private bus to El Cocuy (10-12 hours from Bogotá).

DAY 2 | EL COCUY – MIRADOR EL COCUY

Arrival at El Cocuy at 2,800 meters above sea level. Check-in and breakfast at the hotel, which is a basic accommodation in the village (basic amenities, standard rooms with private facilities and hot water).

Acclimatization trekking to Mirador del Cocuy: 3800 m Cerro Muhammad. Lunch in the village of El Cocuy. Free afternoon. Dinner and rest at the hotel.

 DAY 3 | PULPITO DEL DIABLO GLACIER AND PAN DE AZÚCAR PEAK

Breakfast. Departure from El Cocuy in private vehicle until the entrance of the National Park (1.30 hr.). Continue by foot, 45 minutes trek until the Cabanas of the National Park in Valle del Lagunillas. 6-7 hours trek to the edge of the Pulpito del Diablo Glacier, a huge and square stone, and Pan de Azucar, a peak of 5,000 meters. Return to El Cocuy. Dinner and accommodation.

DAY 4 | LAGUNA GRANDE DE LA SIERRA

After breakfast, Departure from El Cocuy in private vehicle until the entrance of the National Park. Trekking to Laguna Grande de la Sierra and arriving at the snow edge of the Concave peak. (5000 m). This is the emblematic landscape of the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy due to its majesty and probably the most beautiful lake of all the Sierra Nevada del Cocoy surrounded by mountains. An environment of peaks and stones balconies where sunrises a show of colors and reflections. Return to El Cocuy. Dinner and accommodation.

DAY 5 | RITACUBA BLANCO 

After breakfast, Departure from El Cocuy in private vehicle until the entrance of the National Park. Trekking aournd in the Ritacubas sector. Ascent to the edge of the Ritacuba Blanco glacier peak. Return to El Cocuy. Dinner and accommodation.

Breakfast and return by regular bus or private transfer to Bogota.
