FULL DAY TREKKING TUNGUEKA COMMUNITY

The Kogui indigenous ethnic, related to the ancient Tayrona civilization, inhabit the Palomino valleys and Don Diego, San Miguel and Rio Ancho rivers. Its population is estimated at about 10,000 members, all living in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. Our “Elderly Brothers” take care of the natural treasure of the sierra, a mountain that in its culture represents the center of the world and source of all life. Even today, they naturally assume the guarantors role of the cosmic balance and are considered one of the most valuable ancestral cultures on the planet.

From Tayrona transfer through the coastal road to Rio Ancho town. Welcome by a community guide and after a brief talk, start a 9Km hike (approximately 2 hours) through the humid tropical forest, along some parts of Ancho River until you reach the village of Tungueka. After a tour around the village, where you will learn about the way of life of this ethnic group, you will have a brief cultural exchange with the authorities of the community. At the edge of the river on a large rock, you will enjoy a delicious Picnic. Return to Santa Marta.

DURATION: Approximately 10 hours.
