Welcome by a community guide and after a brief talk, start a 2.5Km hike (approximately 45 minutes) through the humid tropical forest until you reach Katanzama indigenous community, located in a magical place on the shores of the sea. With the company of the indigenous community leader you will have a tour around the houses and community rooms, while you learn about the Arhuacos cooking and customs. Then you will go into the plantations to learn about their crops and work materials. Sit around a tree, a sacred space where you will have the opportunity to speak to the “Mamo”, spiritual leader of the community. After briefly visiting the school, enjoy a picnic by the sea. If desired, you can learn to weave traditional mochilas. To end the experience, you will plant an endemic tree of the region. Back to Santa Marta.
